Holsworthy Community College is a vibrant, successful centre of learning for a large rural area of beautiful North Devon with twelve feeder primary schools, although parental preference sees us recruit from wider afield, as we are deemed to offer something different. The College community is totally inclusive and we welcome links with the whole spectrum, from the very young to older learners. We are very proud of all our achievements in this learning community and aim for excellence in everything we do.
Our designation as a specialist Technology College from 1st September 2006 led to our wonderful new Science and Design Technology extension and the introduction of three separate sciences as an option. It also strengthened our existing links with the community and developed new ones. These will be strengthened still further, if our move towards Foundation status with a Co-operative Trust goes ahead with effect from 1st September 2012.
Having achieved our best ever results at GCSE in summer 2011 our Ofsted inspection on January 10th and January 11th 2012 was disappointing and significantly affected by staffing difficulties in Maths. The latter are being resolved and ironically we are expecting our best ever Maths results in summer 2012, fulfilling our first Ofsted requirement.
In our next full inspection, due within two years, we aim to achieve at least a good outcome.
Our core purpose is to provide quality learning for all and to prepare our community for life in a fast changing world. This means assuring first rate academic success as well as providing the opportunities for personal growth through a wide range of cultural, social and challenging experiences in travel, sport, music, drama and debate.
