We are two small local firms of accountant who prepare accounts and Tax Returns and give specialist tax advice to small businesses and individuals. We have built up steady and thriving portfolios. This has been achieved by concentrating on what the client expects (and deserves) from his accountant.
Bown & Co Ltd
Steve Bown, the Senior Partner of this firm, trained as an accountant in Whitley Bay in the late 70's. For the next 10 years he worked with the Inspector of Taxes in all of the North East Districts, also in Manchester and London. After leaving the Inspector of Taxes in 1985 he joined a large firm of accountants in Newcastle, eventually heading up the Personal Tax Department advising small businesses and wealthy individuals on tax compliance and tax planning.
In 1992 he set up a private practice in Heaton, taking many of his clients with him and has subsequently built up the practice of "Bown & Co" by means of being attentive to clients' needs at all times. In October 2000, we relocated to St. Peters Marina, 1 mile along from the Newcastle Quayside.
Richard Bown & Co Ltd
Richard Bown started out as an employee of Bown & Gray in 1995, preparing accounts and tax returns for subcontractors. He then moved on to work exclusively for his father's business, Bown & Co, and started to deal with small businesses' accounts, tax returns, payroll and VAT returns.
At the start of 2008 he set up his own business at St Peters, Richard Bown & Co, taking on those self-employed clients which he dealt with under Bown & Co. He now has an accounts office within The Pure Gallery in Whitley Bay which he runs with his wife.
