Founded in 1973 we have been producing quality hams, pates, smoked poultry products and delicious Christmas puddings from our kitchens in Nottinghamshire for many years now and our family business has become one of the most respected and well known ham producers in the UK.

The Country Victualler was established by Richard Craven-Smith-Milnes and his wife Jane in 1973. In January 2013 Jane and Richard decided to retire and the business was passed on to Mike Maloney Country Butchers and Bakers limited (est.1979), a family run business just down the road in Nottinghamshire. The business has a real family run feel about it and employs a team of highly skilled butchers, bakers and a development chef all who share the same passion for producing top quality produce. Both companie sshare in taking great pride in the quality of our finished goods. A recipe handed down from the late Colonel Dickinson lies at the heart of the company’s foundations, The Alderton Ham, a deliciously sweet and succulent baked ham, glazed with marmalade for a unique yet traditional taste has become the signature product of the company.
